A new trailer for DC’s forthcoming blockbuster Wonder Woman has been released, showing exactly how the eponymous island warrior princess (played by Gal Gadot) came to be a saviour who could bring about the end to the First World War.

"You will train her harder than any Amazon before her, until she is better than even you," Wonder Woman's mother Antiope (Robin Wright) says in a voice-over as her daughter is subjected to an intense training regime on Themyscira, an island of Amazonian warrior women tasked with the sacred duty of defending mankind.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film also stars Chris Pine as a fighter pilot and potential love interest. David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Connie Nielsen, and Lucy Davis will also appear in the movie.

Despite being around for 75 years, Wonder Man only made her first big screen outing last year, in the the critically mauled Batman v Superman. After that and the similarly panned Suicide Squad, DC comics are desperate for Wonder Woman to be a success.
