Donald Trump is proving to be a man of action when it comes to fulfilling his campaign promise to enhance the prospects for US economic growth. America’s new president believes that people flourish under a minimum government burden; to that end he has this week introduced a budget that cuts discretionary spending for government programmes viewed as duplicative or unnecessary.

Long arguing that growth is stifled by Washington’s overbearing presence, Mr Trump has pledged to slash intrusive regulation. Since his inauguration, he has already issued two executive orders aimed at providing relief from burdensome rules imposed by federal agencies. If those directives are successfully implemented as intended, it should provide a major boost to productive economic output.
